		<description>Mice on a 12-week low carbohydrate/high- protein diet had a marked increase in arteriosclerotic plaques in their hearts&#039; arteries. They were unable to form new blood vessels in tissues deprived of blood flow, as occurs during a heart attack (Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, September 2009). 
In spite of the artery damage, blood cholesterol levels did not increase. Further studies are needed to see whether this occurs in humans as well.
